Browser Alternatives
Practically every Windows-based computer has a copy of Internet Explorer installed and IE is still the most popular browser, but there are plenty of great alternatives.
Opera and FireFox are two very popular alternatives (I personally enjoy using Opera). There are, of course, many others -- Netscape is still around, there's Avant, Slim Browser and others.
Which browser do you use most often?

Mainly Opera, recently Firefox.
Avant is not a alternatives browser.
It's a IE plug-in.

Z, thanks for the note on Avant. I've never actually used it, but other people here mentioned it when I asked what browser they use. Should have done a bit more research ;-)

Firefox is my browser of choice.
Of all of the alternative choices to the poorly secured, overbloated, Microsoft market killer IE, all alternatives to IE are superior to it.

Opera - seems faster than IE.
I have been using the Opera Browser since version 3.51 (It's now version7.x)
Version 3.5 would fit on a floppy disk.
Opera loads web-pages much faster than IE. This makes it worth paying for (in my view) even thought IE is "free". There are less security issues with Opera than with IE. A small number of web-sites do NOT work with Opera. I keep a copy of IE handy for the odd occasions when I need to view on of these.

Hi,
I prefer Firefox, more standards compliant. Not too good on some aspects of CSS.
I keep I.E. on board, to check edits to my sites. As my front page is complex, I need a different one for this browser. Better on one aspect of CSS, worse on many others. Many apparent bugs.
Opera works well, not as good as Firefox or I.E.
Mozilla and Netscape very similar to Firefox, same engine.

I like epiphany for linux.

Hi Les...I agree that Opera is worth paying for, for the software and the old shareware philosophy of supporting what you like.

Moailla 1.7.11. Never IE, unless it is the only thing that will work on a particular site.

Opera has features that are just too good to miss.
Once you worked with Opera for a week or two,
there just isn't any more a question of changing...
I have tried most of the alternatives, and have come back to Opera. IE is just crap, and MS should be ashamed of it, but they are not ashamed of anything
any more, their only maxim is MONEY.

I have just recently begun using FireFox and love it. I design on DreamWeaver and often the vertical spacing of my pages are off when viewed in FireFox. Similar to the CSS bugs mentioned above. I have found too that there are some things I cannot do online, so have kept IE6 around for those reasons.

FireFox I use ie only if have to

I use Internet Explorer exclusively. It's a pity that other browsers have been able to attract some users, because this is clearly a situation where one company having a monopoly would be good for everyone.
By the way, in the English language if a noun begins with a vowel the article to use with it is "an". If it begins with a consonant, the correct article is "a". Breaking this rule leads to staccato effects. Obeying it produces a nicer flow of sound and demonstrates your understanding of the language.
We say and write "a cow", and "an ox".

Ron wrote "Mozilla and Netscape very similar to Firefox, same engine."
Actually, it's the other way around, since Netscape and Mozilla came first. I've been using Netscape since somewhere around v.3 which was bad but still better than IE. I use IE only to test my web sites and if some inconsiderate webmaster was too lazy to test his/hers with other browsers, and it won't work in anything but IE.

I find that Firefox & Mozilla for Emails are by far the best browsers. There are practically no viruses made deliberately for this one. I recomend it to all my friends.

I used only Internet Explore. Maybe would like to explore/learn other browser.

My default browser is Firefox - I find it is easy to customise to my particular needs. I still use Netscape occasionally, and IE if that's what a particular site demands - but I /hate/ being told what browser to use! I have used Opera but never gotten the hang of it - I think I'll try downloading the latest version to see if it's improved. I hear good things about Safari but haven't tried it yet, must check that one out too.
