Case Sensitivity

When naming files or creating a username and password, it's important to remember that case matters -- for example, filename.txt, FILENAME.TXT and FileName.Txt may be interpreted differently by different operating systems.

For filenames, I find it's always best to stick to all lowercase letters. This way, I never need to remember what letters might need to be capitalized (though, admittedly, I sometimes use capital letters -- say, when the file name includes WS_FTP). This is particularly helpful if you are working on a Windows system (where case doesn't often matter) but are uploading to a Unix server (where case usually does matter).

For usernames and passwords, mixing cases is often a good idea and adds an extra layer of security.
