Anti-Virus Software
Which anti-virus software do you use? I'm using Avast Anti-Virus at home (they have a free license for home use) and we use Symantec in the office.

I use Symantec, and so far have never had a virus attack, though they have been detected and safely removed.

I use AVG by Grisoft. They have a free version. It quietly watches everything without interrupting me. It updates daily, and runs a full check when I set it to, without slowing down what I'm doing.
I highly recommend it.

Have been using McAfee for many years on several PC's and am satisfied with it.
I use their firewall too.

We use Panda AV on main systems following a Vietnamese hack-in of our Banking service,as it picks up everything in existence, and Vet on our secondary network systems. With regular Panda On-Line Scans on those machines.

I have used Symantec's Norton's AV Both personally and professional for over 10 years, and I have never had any problems. I also recommend it to all my clients with total success. Today I use it along with Zone Alarm Pro. Nothing gets through.

I've been using Norton AntiVirus and when it works it's fine, but for several months I've had a problem with it disabling itself. Going into the program to enable it doesn't work, and I've had to reboot to get it working again. Consequently I'd like to try avast! but I'm worried that uninstalling NAV will not remove it completely, and that remaining files etc will conflict with another antivirus program.

I use KasPerSky Anti-Virus Personal and they usually advise me and update their virus signature database long before I hear from similar attacks from Norton, MacFee or AVG.
The only thing is that it slows down the boot process slightly at PC start-up. But it is all OK afterward.

I use AVG at home on 3 computers.
Never a problem. Supplemented with
AdAware SE Personal, ZoneAlarm (free version).

I use F-Prot from Iceland, $29 annual covers all the computers in the house. Well worth it. And Zone Alarm as a free firewall. Very happy with both.

I use Norton - never had a problem.

We use AVG Pro on two desktops and the Free version on our two laptops.
AdAware and firewalls complete the protection.
No problems.
But, in earlier times there were problems with Symantec's automatic updates -- we got a virus that required a complete reformatting -- the next time without Symantec, certainly!

NOD32. It has a 64bit version and it places a very low demand on resources.

We use the Zone Alarm Security Suite, free from our ISP. Firewall, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, email scanning and instant message scanning. It also has Parental Control options.

Norton Anti-virus - I too have had problems with it disabling itself.

I havr tried Norton, AVG and AntiVir on XP platform. Norton let some viruses through, AVG had problems working with Zone Alarm, and Antivir was troublesome updating and kept closing down when waking from hibernation necessitating restart. I now have Avast which seems to work very well.

I use Avast from ALWIL software. Its free and has a recovery database for home users. There is a small fee for business use.
The aim of VRDB (Virus Recovery Database) is to help when, despite all the security measures, a virus gets inside the computer and the files are infected. With the help of VRDB, it is possible to repair infected files.
The on-access protection is great. It boasts seven of them which run without taking mass amounts of resources.
I've used it for a year now and have not had any problems. I have also used Norton and McAfee in the past, but hey - they cost money and take up way to many resources.
That is my consumer based opionion from past experiences from all three. I do run free online virus checks now and then from McAfee and Norton to see if Avast is keeping up and so far so good. But I don't think I'll ever install a full version of McAfee or Norton again if I can help it. The only time I do notice a slight bog is when It is installing the latest definitions or a new version of the software.
