Transferring Files

How do you most often transfer files? It is through an FTP client? Do you use a P2P program (which one?), a browser to transfer files, or something else?

Let us know. One lucky person will win a free copy of WS_FTP Professional!

I ftp on an average of 5 -8 times per day, maintaining 7 websites for my company, plus I have developed a Blackberry ftp program for use with our Linux POS system. Salesmen can log into the main server from anywhere within 50 miles of Calgary and check price, stock and place on-site orders. Along with these ftp's I also use ftp service to upload files to printers and other graphical endeavours on behalf of the company. Prior to joining the company, no one knew what ftp'ing was which explained why there were either none or very basic websites done by profssionals, and all were static. I presently use FTP Commander which I find very suitable but for most of my career, I used WS_FTP non professional versions. I find Commander easy to use, but I really think the ftp program one uses is a matter of taste and personal desire.

FTP for anything web site related or when syncing my personal music with home (just sending 2-3 new files never demands an entire CDR or the hand off with a usb key). For larger files and major program transfers I use my usb key, however I still will burn the occasional CD.

I went to school for web design and they gave
me a education copy of WS-FTP so when I
passed the course the first thing I did was
buy myself the Home WS-FTP. I have tried others
but I will never changed to another one.
I maintain 2 websites and working on a third
and it has never let me down. Its the easiest
to work with and I just really enjoy it.

I use the pgm exclusively (and religiously) every evening to upload the latest issue of Israel News Faxx to www.israelnewsfaxx.com

In addition, a daily jpg cartoon is uploaded and every Thursday evening, the combined weekly edition of Israel News Faxx is uploaded. I have been using Version 7 (2 column version) since it was released during prehistoric times.

I use Konqueror's sftp:// for ssh ftp'ing

I use WS_FTP on a weekly basis to transfer 1.4 GB of data to the Administrators in Medicine (AIM)so that Health Care personnel can verify the credentials of Alabama Physicians. We used to email it until the file got too large and it would time out. Also use it to transfer programs and a SQL database which is under development at a site in North Carolina. I use it in getting fixes for Dell server problems on occasion.

I use remote desktop, and the batch files commands we build. Sometime I just use the broweser. I only use WS_ftp for transfering the web site developing stuff. I/we transfer about three to 15 times a day.
