"Connect Failure" -- Now What Do I Do?
The connect failure message is fairly common. It looks like this:
Finding Host www.ipswitch.com ...
Connecting to xxx.xx.x.xxx:xx
Connect failure
It also doesn't give you a lot of information on how to solve the problem and connect successfully. We're here to help. There are a few things you can do:
1. Check that the site you are connecting to is an FTP server. In the example above, this is the problem. Note that in the example it says www.ipswitch.com when the it should be ftp.ipswitch.com.
2. Is the FTP site address correct? Could there be a typo? If you're entering an IP address directly, make sure you haven't transposed two numbers.
3. Does your firewall allow your FTP program to access the internet? If not, be sure to allow FTP access through your firewall. This also applies to some anti-virus programs.
4. Change the timeout value in your FTP program. Commonly, this is found within a site's profile and usually on an advanced tab (that's where it is found in WS_FTP).
