Spyware Maker Punished
Spyware is my #2 peeve on the Internet (spam is #1).
For those of you not familiar, spyware is sometimes included with computer software and it collects personal information about users without their informed consent.
Personal information is secretly recorded in a variety ways, all of which are sneaky. Information collected ranges from overtly criminal (theft of passwords and financial details) to the merely annoying (recording Internet search history for targeted advertising, while consuming computer resources).
Anyways, nice to see the courts come down hard on a software company that used spyware to take information from its customers.
"Attorney General Rob McKenna announced yesterday a $1 million settlement with Secure Computer"
One down, several hundred thousand to go....
