CuteFTP upload speed issues

I've seen lots of swirl about people experiencing slow transfer speeds using CuteFTP. Here's a comment from a longtime CuteFTP customer who just switched due to poor performance: "Over the last few months I've noticed a marked decrease in upload performance.... I downloaded Fetch last night, and uploaded a software update to my website with it and I was amazed at how quickly Fetch completed the operation in comparison to CuteFTP"

A few people have emailed me asking for a recommendation on what file transfer client delivers the fastest transfer speeds.

My recommendation is simple (and you can give 'em a try for free):
* Mac: Fetch
* Windows: WS_FTP

Hi!

This sounds a bit weird. Typically your ftp
software would have very little to do with
the speed. The major influence is the server
which you are trying to upload to.

But I would very much like to see a proper test
on this if anyone has done one?

Hi Peter -- All software is absolutely not created equal. Just like just about any other product, certain brands or versions work better than others. Take my anti-virus software for example -- I've tried three different products and one has risen above the others in terms of performance, reliability and speed. Same with the FTP software I've tried. IMHO, CuteFTP is good but WS_FTP and Fetch are FAR superior in actual performance.

I'd love to hear other folk's opinions on this topic.......

I just switched to mac and said goodbye to long loved ws_ftp_le. I paid for CuteFTP so was really pissed when the upload wasnt working. Would time out, freeze, etc. I changed the settings to Passive Mode and Binary after some googling. Works fine now uploading at a cute 1.5 mbs with no stopping in sight!
