Security is Critical to both Organizations & Individuals

I stumbled across this fantastic article written by Swayam Prakasha in a recent issue of Enterprise Networks & Storage. Basically, the premise of the article is that businesses are requiring more and more storage to keep all their data and documents... And at the same time, more and more attention is being placed on securing that information.

Speaking as a consumer, the increased focus on corporate security to protect confidential and private information is comforting, especially amid the seamlessley endless swirl around company data breaches.

The argument from the article absolutely applies to us here on FTPplanet as well. We all move files and data from file transfer clients to file transfer servers, and the same security cornerstones mentioned in the article that are important to businesses should be carefully considered by individuals and businesses alike when administrating a file transfer server, namely:

"Authentication: Authentication is the process by which an entity will be verified. The entity can be a login-request, SSH key, etc.

Authorization: Authorization is the process of determining which privileges are granted to whom.

Data Integrity: Integrity confirms that the data has not been modified in the process of its movement from the source to the destination.

Availability: By availability, we make sure that information and resources will be available to legitimate users all the time."

Finally, here's a list of security best practices to help ensure your important information remains uncompromised. Again, the article is a great read and it expands on each of these points so check it out!
