Uploading Web Pages to Your HostClick here to email this page to a friend.

Not familiar with FTP, click here before continuing.

Uploading web page files can often be confusing.  A FTP client can make this process a lot less painful.  In just a few clicks, you can get your HTML and picture files up on the web.

First of all, you will want to get your server address.  This should have already been provided by your ISP.  If you need a free place to host your web site, you can find a list of them in our ratings and reviews section and on our free web hosting page in our webmaster section.

The next thing you will need is your username and password.  If your are using your ISP as your host, it will probably be the same as your dial-up-networking connection.

With this info, you are ready to go.  Just create a new profile with this server address and your user information.  When you are connected, you should be placed in the directory that your ISP uses to store web page files.

To transfer a file that contains text (.html*, .txt):

1. Click once on a file to select it. (If you plan to transfer multiple files, hold down the "control" key  and click once on each file you wish to select.)

2. Click on the ASCII radio button.

3. Click once on the "->" arrow positioned between the Local System and Remote Site windows to initiate the transfer of files from your computer to the Remote Site.   *(Images are not included in HTML files, they must be transferred separately. See the Uploading Image via FTP section for instruction on transferring images.)
