MP3's are often difficult to download. MP3 search engines often return a busy
link and the HTML browser just isn't powerful enough to meet typical
FTP downloading needs. The best way to get MP3's is by using an FTP client
such as WS_FTP. In addition, most MP3 search engines search FTP sites,
so it's only natural that an FTP client would be more useful.
The first thing you will want to do is find an MP3 of
interest to you. There are a couple of things one should remember when
making queries for MP3's. First of all, be as specific as possible.
Use the artist's name and song title if possible. If this doesn't work,
then try one or the other. Secondly, don't take
no for an answer. If one engine doesn't work, try another.
Start by using one of these search
engines.
Most MP3 search engines will return a hit in a format like this:
ftp://mp3:mp3@24.112.254.100:2000/d:/MP3/Full
Albums/[unsorted singles]/mp3.com/:21_century_radio_mix.mp3
We can see a few things here. The mp3:mp3 reference is the user and password you will want to use.
The number
that follows after this is the IP address of the FTP server you will connect to.
Given these two pieces of info, we
have everything we need to get the file.
Using WS_FTP, create a New Profile with this IP address and the username and password to match.

Select "connect" and wait to see what happens.
If you get in, great. Just path your way to the file you want and click
on the left arrow to move the file to your drive!!
If you get an error about too many connections,
you don't need to sit there trying and trying again. Just go to the session properties
dialog box and select the advanced tab. From here, you can select the number of server
retries you want. If the server is busy, set it high and let WS_FTP go to work.
This is one of the many benefits of using WS_FTP instead of your
browser to download FTP files.

Ratio Errors?
If you get weird messages about ratios, don't be alarmed.
Ratio-based FTP sites require you to upload something before downloading. If you have a high-speed connection,
this is not problem. If you are slower connection, you might want to try
another site.
