FTP Tip of the Week:
In a follow-up to previous tips on sorting columns in
WS_FTP, Joe Sepielli
provided the following: "If you right click in
either pane and select 'Sort'
from the menu, there is a 'Sort on Extension'
selection. This can be very
helpful if you want to transfer, say, all you .gif
files. Holding down the
CTRL key and clicking on the 'Name' column heading
will also sort by
extension."
Do you have a good FTP tip? Send us your tips

Simtel.net is a self-proclaimed 'distribution network
for Shareware,
Freeware, and Public Domain software'. Not
particularly familiar with the
site, I was surprised to see the depth and variety of
programs available on
the site.
When you first enter Simtel.net's FTP site, you'll
most likely want go to
the '/pub' directory and then to the '/simtelnet'
directory. Here is where
you'll find the real meat of the site. I
explored the '/win95' directory
and found, among other things, a lengthy list of
graphic programs, icon
generators, compression utilities, fonts, desktop
utilities, HTML tools, and
CAD programs.
All the file names look Greek to me but you will find
'index.txt' files in
about 60% of the directory folders. If you'd rather
have an HTML based site
index, one does exist (http://www.FTPplanet.com/nl.plx?060700:simtel).
In a nut-shell, this FTP site is definitely worth a
look!
