YEAR'S BEST ARTICLE: TURN YOUR PC INTO AN FTP SERVER
Learn how easy it is to run an FTP server on your
computer. Share files with
family, friends, co-workers or venders will all the
benefits of FTP. http://www.FTPplanet.com/nl.plx?YE2000:3
The Washington University FTP site is
one-stop-shopping for FTP archives. It
successfully mirrors a number of other FTP sites,
allowing you to download a
wide variety of software, pictures, music, and more.
When you first login to the site you'll find a number
of general directories
('/archive','/graphics', etc.). These directory names
are a bit vague and do
little to reveal their contents. The site does have
one index.html file,
which can be found in the main directory.
If you're looking for Windows shareware and freeware,
go to the
'/systems/ibmpc/' directory. From there you'll want to
go to either the
'/win95' or the '/umich.edu' directory. If you're
looking for a synthesized
midi file of Stayin' Alive by The Bee Gees, then
you'll want to go to
'/multimedia/midi/beegees'.
All-in-all, a fun site that's definitely worth
exploring.
