If you want to transfer your Website from a free host
like GeoCites or
FortuneCity to a paid host, or vice versa, the fastest
and easiest way to
do this is through a remote-to-remote file transfer
using WS_FTP Pro.
To do a remote-to-remote file transfer, open two
instances of WS_FTP Pro and
position these two Windows so that you can see both of
them on your screen
at once. Then, simply drag and drop the files from one
remote site to the
other remote site. The transfer will happen
automatically using your local
system as the go-between.
Do you have a good FTP tip? Submit your tips and
we'll feature them in the
FTPplanet.com Newsletter! Post tips to the
Discussion Forum, FTP Tips. http://www.FTPplanet.com/nl.plx?041201:tips
Although none of us like to admit it, we all need to
go to Microsoft at some
point. More often than not, you need some obscure file
to make software work
with your version of the Windows operating system.
Well, the Microsoft FTP
site provides a hassle-free way for getting any files
that you might need.
Within a few clicks, I've found that you can easily
find software or
documentation on any Microsoft product. When first
logging in you're
presented with a dozen fairly well-labeled folders.
These folders lead to
ordered sub-directories that eventually filter you to
different files -- and
hopefully the one you're looking for. Although
some files are difficult to
identify, the directory structure and 'readme' files
really help you
navigate through the site.
For a large company, Microsoft's FTP site is
surprisingly well organized. I
generally find that I can locate what I need faster
and easier than using
the Microsoft Website.

As I had suspected, it seems that almost all of you
are Internet veterans.
