FEATURED TIP: Setting Extensions for Auto Transfers
As most of you know, text files should be transferred
using ASCII while
all other files should be transferred using Binary. To
make it easier,
WS_FTP Pro and WS_FTP LE have an 'Auto' transfer mode
where each
file is automatically transferred using the
appropriate mode. However, it is
important to first make sure you have the appropriate
file types designated
as ASCII.
When using 'Auto', WS_FTP will transfer all files
types as Binary
unless they appear in the ASCII 'Extensions' list.
To modify the settings for the ASCII extensions list,
click on 'Options'
and then click on the tab that reads 'Extensions'. The
default extension
for text files is '.TXT', however, all Web pages and
scripts are also text
files. If you transfer these types of files, you
should, at least, add
'.HTML', '.HTM','.CGI', and '.PL' to this list.
When you are finished adding file extensions to the
list, click the
'OK' button. Then make sure to use 'Auto' for all your
future file
transfers.
