Have you ever encountered an error when
trying to connect to an FTP
site and see a cryptic FTP error code? What
do these numbers mean?
Well, whenever you attempt to communicate
with an FTP server, it
returns a code to WS_FTP (the FTP client) to
let you know the status
of your request. Most of the time, the
communication is fine so
WS_FTP simply records it to the FTP log.
However when there is an
error, such as a bad userid or password,
WS_FTP gives you the "uh-oh"
sound and reports the returned error code.
In WS_FTP Pro, you will see this error code
as red text in the Log
Window accompanied by a brief description.
For example: 530 Invalid
userid/password.
If you are using WS_FTP LE however, you do
not have the benefit of
the red text nor the brief description.
You can also
search on the FTP code using FTPplanet.com's
search box (located at the top of each
page). This is particularly
helpful if you're trying to get to the
bottom of a problem associated
with that particular code.
"I really
like the new Netscape. Nice speed and
stability, which is
what I value most. Tell me... which would
you rather have... a browser
with a million features, but loads
google.com in about 5 minutes, or a
browser with not many features, but loads
pages fast. My point exactly."
