FTP TIP:
Submitted
Tip, AOL's
Best Kept
Secret
This
week's tip
comes to
us
courtesy
of
FTPplanet
community
member Bob
Nadler:
"AOL's
best kept
secret is
that they
provide
free space
for Web
pages for
their
members.
They
provide 4
meg per
user name,
up
to a total
of 28 megs
of space
for 7 user
names.
Their
servers
were lousy
for a long
while, but
they have
recently
improved
them
to the
point
where they
are quite
fast and
reliable.
If you
name
your
startup
file "index.htm,"
your Web
address
will be
member.aol.com/username.
Files can
be
uploaded
and
downloaded
with
WS_FTP.
AOL
supports
animation
and they
will
provide a
hit
counter.
Avoid
their
Hometown
Header
banner, by
simply not
joining
Hometown.
AOL
members
can get
more
information
by going
to
keyword
"my FTP
space." I
created my
site using
Notepad
and
maintain
it's 130+
files with
WS_FTP95LE.
Readers
are
welcome
