This week's FTPplanet Site of the Week is from FTPplanet community
member HalleB529, who posted this information about her Web site:
"I created a web site for my grandmother regarding her WWII Navy
WAVES service and a surprise party which we held for her regarding
her 76th birthday and 56th Navy WAVES enlistment in 1999.
I just updated the web site, but I would appreciate your input. There is
a lot of text on the pages, as well as photos, and I have broken them up
into sections for which I know WAVES would search/be interested. Other
WAVES veterans who have contacted me told me the way I have the site
set up works well for them, as they can browse by category, find the
page/pictures for which they are searching in one area. However, I am
concerned about a long loading period per page, and that non WAVES
vewing the pages may see too much text/load time for photos.
Through an informal poll: older WAVES veterans have made it clear they
prefer all the photos and stories regarding a category (ex: Hunter College)
on one single page: they do not want to click onto another link to view more
information/continue the page.
Grandma turns 80 this November, and I really want to do a great job with
the site to celebrate her 60th Navy WAVES enlistment anniversary.
I would appreciate your advice. Please be gentle, lol, but honest-this is
my first web site I have designed.
My husband and I are currently AOL subscribers, so we do not have the
best options available, but I hope to change to a new server/host by this
winter."
Thanks for posting your Web site HalleB529 (and a big happy birthday to
your Grandma from all of us at FTPplanet.com)!
