"I have had Verizon DSL for over 2 years. Verizon has the monopoly
where I live. I keep AOL BYOA plan on top. Just this week I spent
over 1.5 hours on hold to get to customer service. Every time I go on
vacation the connection has been turned off, "gone to sleep". This
requires a call to the technical service. I learned to bypass the
standard customer service it has happened so many times.
They reset the modem in their office and all is OK till next vacation.
This takes almost an hour on the phone with the hold time. They
have varying excuses and answers, none of which have turned out
correct. Just last night the service was down just when I needed it.
Back to AOL dialup time. The speed is slower than advertised,
650 max instead 760. I have Norton firewall and virus protection,
updated daily. I need it as in the past month I have been hacked
twice and twice viruses were intercepted. Apparently the dynamic
DSL from Verizon gives an open port to the hackers. Other than
that it is fine."
