--> Featured Article: WS_FTP's Compression Mode
One of the most popular new features in WS_FTP
Professional is the compression mode, which will
"zip" up your files before you transfer them.
We have an article posted that discusses this
new compression mode and shows how it can decrease
file size significantly.

--> WS_FTP Professional Interactive Screenshot
Ipswitch has posted a very cool interactive screenshot
detailing the features of WS_FTP Professional 2006:

Move your mouse cursor over a yellow-highlighted
section for a description of that feature.
--> Blog Update
There has been a lot of blog activity since our last
newsletter. If you've missed any of the entries,
visit
http://www.ftpplanet.com to get caught up
on these and other posts:
- FTP Helps Break World Record
- 500 Error
- Converting a Picture to Internet Format
- Open Folder View
- Address Lookup Failed
- Web Page Building for Beginners
--> Command Line FTP
Windows has some very, very basic FTP functionality
built-in. It's a much more technical solution than
using an FTP program, as it involves the command
line.
If you'd like to see this functionality, go to the
command prompt and type in "ftp" (without the quotes).
The FTP prompt will appear.
Nest, type in "help" to learn more what commands are
available. You can also type in "help" followed by
a specific command to learn more about that command.
To connect to a site, simply type "open" and the URL
or
IP address. For example, you would connect to the
FTPplanet FTP site by typing "open ftp.ftpplanet.com"
(again, without the quotes).
Give the command line FTP a try and see what you
think.
I don't find it as easy or functional as an FTP
client,
but it gets the job done if you're on a computer that
doesn't have a client available (say, a public
computer
at a tradeshow).
That's it for this issue. As always, have a great
week.
Best regards,
The FTPplanet Staff
