--> Anti-Virus Software

We'd like to know which anti-virus software you
use. Let us know by leaving a comment:

I use Avast Anti-Virus at home (they have a
free license for home use) and Symantec in the
office.

--> Invalid Extension

The error message "invalid extension" is
generated by the FTP server you are connecting
to. It means that your web host will not accept
the file type you are trying to upload. This is
very common with free FTP hosts and some of the
cheaper ones out there. Commonly restricted
files include MP3s and video files (.avi, .wmv,
.mpg, etc.).

There's a fairly easy way around this: simply
.ZIP up the files before you upload (WS_FTP
Pro 2006 can do this automatically for you).
However, this workaround can be inconvenient if
you actually wanted the MP3 or video file to
play on your web site.

A comment in the blog by James adds, "I found
a way, that only works for some files, but if
you want an audio file that is compatible with
QuickTime, many copies of IE use QT for some
picture extensions, such as portable network
graphics (.png) and you can change the audio
file's extension to .png, and upload it, and
it should play, because QT will try to open it
as a picture, but then correct itself and open
it as audio."

Don't forget to check out FTPplanet's collection

Tutorials include connecting to your web space,
using WS_FTP's features and creating desktop
shortcuts.
