Improving WS_FTP Transfer
Speed In
WS_FTP Home and Professional, there are a couple of things
you can do to improve your transfer speed. Note that there
are a lot of factors that go into determining your FTP speed
and most are external to WS_FTP (see our article FTP
Speed Tips for more information). Increase
Number of Transfer Connections WS_FTP
Home and Professional include an option for changing the
number of transfer connections per site. You can find this
option by editing an FTP site profile (File > Connect
> Site Manager and then highlighting a site name
and clicking Edit). When
the Site Options screen pops up, click transfer in the
left-hand column and look for the 'Maximum Transfer
Connections' option as highlighted in this screenshot:
Change the number in the
'Maximum Transfer Connections' box to a number higher than
0. Here is what the numbers mean:
0: Do not create any special
transfer connections. Only use the single transfer
connection WS_FTP already has.
1: Create one addition
transfer connection. A setting of 1 allows you to
browse an FTP site while a transfer is occurring.
2 or more: Similar to 1,
but creating addition transfer connections as specified.
For example, you can transfer multiple files at the same
time (as opposed to transfer one file and waiting for it
to finish before the next transfer begins).
FTPplanet recommends increasing the
'maximum transfer connections' value to 5. If you are using
SFTP/SSH, we recommend leaving the value at 0 (if you're not
sure what SFTP/SSH is, chances are you are not using it).
Note that you are limited to the number
of connections that a server will allow you. Contact the FTP
site administrator for more information.
