The WS_FTP Pro Synchronize Utility - Updating a Local Folder with Files in a Remote Folder
The WS_FTP Pro Synchronize Utility allows you to synchronize (or mirror) two different local or remote directories quickly and efficiently. It is an invaluable tool for updating
live Web sites from an authoring site, mirroring FTP servers, or automatically keeping sites up to date. In this tutorial, you will be using
the WS_FTP Pro Synchronize Utility to update files on your local system with files in a remote folder on ftp.FTPplanet.com. To complete this tutorial, you will need the following:
- An active
connection to the Internet
- WS_FTP Pro installed on
your computer
To begin, you will need to connect to the
Internet. Then open WS_FTP
Pro by clicking on the
WS_FTP Pro icon that's on your desktop.
If
you do not have a WS_FTP Pro icon on your desktop, click on the Start button
and then select Programs, then WS_FTP, and then WS_FTP
Pro.
Before we open the WS_FTP Pro Synchronize Utility, we need to download the tutorial files we will be using from an anonymous FTP connection to ftp.FTPplanet.com. If you need
assistance connecting to an anonymous FTP site, click here.
Once connected to ftp.FTPplanet.com, navigate to the desired destination folder on your local system (My Documents, Desktop, etc.).
Then on the Remote System, select the folder WS_FTPSynch in the tutorials directory. Click on the appropriate green transfer arrow to transfer the folder to your local system. There should be two sample
files in this folder – synch1.txt and synch2.txt.
