I couldn't connect to any ftp site after installing Norton Antivirus 2005. But if I turned off Norton's Worm Protection, I could connect. . Yesterday I was talking to my ISP, and he encouraged me to keep trying things. Thanks John. (And, may I give God the credit for letting me find this?) . Here's a fix. . Open Norton AntiVirus 2005 - Click "Options" -- Click "Internet Worm Protection" --- Make sure "Enable Internet Worm Protection (recommended)" is checked. --- Click "Trojan Rules" ---- Uncheck "Unused Windows Services Block", (all the way at the bottom of the list) ---- "OK" --- "OK" . Connect to a site in WS-FTP. (It'll work.) . Go back to Norton - Click "Options" -- Click "Internet Worm Protection" --- Click "Program Control" ---- You should see a new entry, "Microsoft Application Layer Gateway Service". It should be configured as "Automatic". This is what fixed the problem. (You don't have to make any changes here; this step was just to let you see the new entry.) ---- "OK" --- Click "Trojan Rules" ---- Put the checkmark back into "Unused Windows Services Block" ---- "OK" --- "OK" Close Norton . You should now be able to connect with WS-FTP the same as you could before installing Norton AntiVirus 2005. . One other thing: if you have Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 installed, you may at some point have to tell Windows Firewall to not block WS-FTP. To do so, . Open the Windows Control Panel - Click "Windows Firewall" -- Click the "Exceptions" tab --- Click "Add Programs" ---- Check "WS_FTP Pro" ----- The Scope should be set to "Any computer (including those on the Internet)".My environment is - Windows XP Pro, Version 5.1, Service Pack 2 - Norton AntiVirus 2005, Version 11.0.11.4 - WS-FTP 7.5 2002.02.28 - Computer is an IBM 8433-94U IP: Logged |

It is Norton Antivirus Worm Protection. I have the same problem. If I disable worm protection (go to Norton Antivirus Options-click on Internet Worm Protection in the left pane-then Uncheck Enable Internet Worm Protection) FTP works fine. I have tried using Program Control (which should work) to allow access to several FTP clients (WSFTP, CuteFTP, FlashFXP) with no success. For now, I just disable worm protection when using FTP then re-enable when done. IP: Logged |

I can no longer ftp from my system at all. I've tried lots of programs including dreamweaver, cuteftp and even just explorer. None will allow me to connect. I get the usual waiting for server errors and it then will time out.I have serveral servers, so it's not the server it's my machine. I have norton system works premier 2005 with worm protection on. I have no firewalls turned on, and i've turned windows firewall off too. The only thing that i can see that could block the ftp is norton antivirus with worm protection but if i put programs as exceptions it still won't let me. Also i've tried disabling norton and it won't let me connect either. The other possibility is that i set up a LAN connection between two office computers. it's a direct cable ethernet (X) connection. I have no router or hub etc, just two network cards with one cable. Mostly the second machine is turned off and the main computer is the one i am trying to ftp with, it's connected directly to the modem and the internet etc works fine. FTP used to work on this machine, but i don't know what might have changed. I've possibly altered a setting in windows somewhere? i don't know. can anyone please help as i've tried all sorts and asked lots of different people and no one can help me so far. Thanks so much.
